Who is responsible for stream maintenance?

Natural occurring debris, such as tree branches, beaver dams etc., that occur without human involvement falls outside of NFIP regulation and is the responsibility of the property owner to keep the waterway free and clear of this type of debris to ensure the natural flow is not altered or blocked.

Man-made obstructions, such as a low-water crossing or dam, require a permit to ensure this structure does not imped the natural flow or elevation of the water.

Check with U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers and the Oklahoma Water Resources Board to ensure State and Federal agencies are permitted properly for man-made development.
